How Do I Calculate My Weighted GPA?

To calculate your weighted GPA, follow these steps:

  1. Divide your grade in a weighted class (find out what a weighted class is on this page) by 10.
  2. Subtract 5 from the result.
  3. Add the weight of the class to the result. The weight of the class is 1 for advanced classes and AP/IB classes, and 0 for on-level classes.
  4. If the result is greater than 6 for advanced/AP/IB classes, set it to 6. For on-level classes, if the result is greater than 5, set it to 5.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 for all weighted classes, add the results, and divide by the number of classes.
  6. If your GPA is above 5.7, then you are probably top 10%. If it is above 5.8, then you are probably top 5% (This is just an estimation and may not be true).

How Do I Calculate My Unweighted GPA?

To calculate your unweighted GPA, follow these steps:

  1. If your grade in a class is between 90 and 100, it is a 4.0, if it is between 80 and 90, it is a 3.0. If it is between 70 and 80, it is a 2.0, and, if you are failing, it is a 1.0
  2. Add the results of step 1 for all classes, and divide by the number of classes.
  3. If your GPA is below a 4.0, try to get it back up, though it is fine if you cannot.

You can use the calculator below to calculate both your unweighted an weighted GPAs for you.
